I love crypto speculation as much as the next guy and I think my mission to bring investing to the masses speaks for itself — but this is getting a little out of hand. As always, the smart money will leave richer and the dopes will learn a valuable lesson.
The result (beyond bankruptcy) will be over-regulation, which will only harm the long term participation for retailers in speculative markets.

On The Pod: I’ve always said some of the best entrepreneurs I’ve met are former athletes and veterans — there’s just something in the mental makeup and process orientation that makes them especially successful at venture. CJ Watson is no exception, his time in the NBA not only helped him build wealth, but also allowed him to have experiences that would serve him well post-hoops. Digital Eclipse is the de facto commercial archaeologists of the videogame industry.
The company has been around since the early 90’s and if you’ve played an old school video game on a new platform, you’ve likely experienced their genius. When it comes to remastering games for new platforms and tech, Digital Eclipse is the best in the business and as the future of gaming cements itself as a major industry sector, all great games will eventually need to be remastered and re-engineered for new platforms so dads like me can show their kids that we were cool too once!

Mike is as OG in gaming as it gets. Just look at this dude’s office. Literally everyone on the Digital Eclipse team has crazy gaming chops! Mike was about as impressive a person as I’ve ever met in the gaming space. What stood out in-particular though was his practical understanding for the need his company fills. There will never not be a highly valuable need for this service — just as there will never be a time when remastering movies is relevant.

Basically these guys identify a trending retro game, test interest and completely remaster the game for all new platforms so they look and feel like the original but still function and play like a modern game. It’s a total art form and one that very few teams possess.

Here's what I like: I love video games. Especially old games — there’s something about muscle memory from old game maps and my constantly slowing hand-eye-coordination that makes me a total fanboy of Digital Eclipse.
This deal is unique, it’s essentially investing in future revenue. When they ID new-old games to remaster we assume the risk of loss along with the company and when Techmo Bowl gets remastered for PS5 and is eventually turned into a comic book style Netflix series, we share in the profits along with the company.
Very similar to a past deal I featured with Amico.
Here's what I don't love: Honestly, there is nothing I don’t love about Digital Eclipse. My personal love for old games aside, the market is freaking gigantic and only getting bigger — and as new platforms and gaming tech emerges the need for remastering will continue to exist.
The only turnoff to this deal would be the minimum buy-in of $1,000 and the fact that it’s a rev share deal vs a traditional equity investment.
Who should invest and why: If you’re unfamiliar with these types of rev share investments, $1,000 might be a steep entry point for some. Otherwise, if you dig gaming and like investing in massive markets with incredible growth metrics; this is an awesome opportunity to bet on the upside of a very reputable team in the space.
The deal is very simple and straightforward, just like the company.
As always, startup investing is super high-risk, anything can happen. So, don't invest money you can’t burn on a last chance at conquering Zelda 🎮 💸
